John J. York, a native of Chicago, caught the acting bug as a 5th grader playing the part of the Artful Dodger in his brother's high school play, Oliver. However, it was not until 10 years later that he seriously pursued his acting career, studying at the Wisdom Bridge Theatre in Chicago, under the guidance of Edward Kaye-Martin.

In 1983, he ventured out to Los Angeles and quickly landed parts on a variety of television series including Hotel, Hunter, Dynasty, Newhart, Family Ties, and Murder, She Wrote. Shortly afterwards, he captured the lead role on the Fox Television program, Werewolf.

York's film credits include roles in Chattanooga Choo Choo, The Bear, Steel and Lace, and Closer and Closer.

In 1991, York originated the role of Mac Scorpio on the long running daytime drama, General Hospital, which he continues to play today. He also recently guest starred on the very popular Disney Channel show, Even Stevens.

York spends his free time with his wife Vicki, and daughter Schyler, in addition to continually trying to lower his handicap out on the golf course.

York is a long time supporter of wonderful charitable organizations such as the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
